Dubai Festival City was one of the first mega projects in Dubai and is privately held by the Al Futtaim Group, a leading Dubai Based family business, employing over 20,000 employees. Dubai Festival City was the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the Al Futtaim Family. At the inception of Dubai Festival City, it was very important that we elevated the project marketing to International standards.
As Managing Director of Shopping Centres and Commercial Real Estate, I was delighted with the work of John Shaver and the design team in the creation of a World Class Marketing Centre Project. First Canadian Place is one of our flagship properties located in downtown Toronto. There are 2 levels of retail concourse and a food market offering below the main tower on King Street. The decision was made to renovate the food market portion of the concourse and it was on this project I had the pleasure of working with John. A project of this nature can sometimes be quite complex given the nature of the many existing architectural conditions, as well as tenants that needed to remain up and running during the construction process. We required a creative design solution that was innovative yet sensitive to the existing architecture. We were very pleased with the solution that John and the design team provided us. It was modern and clean and gave us flexibility in terms of the complex construction schedule that would be required to complete the project with minimal disruption to the operators.
